After a 118-day strike, the Screen Actors Guild honored the best performers in film and television at the 30th Annual SAG Awards. The series will also compete for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series against The Crown, The Gilded Age, The Last of Us, and The Morning Show.
To add a burst of color, the Disney Channel alum showed off a shiny red manicure. Comedy series Ted Lasso and The Bear also snagged four nominations each. All three are in the running for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Netflix plans to broadcast the ceremony live for the first time, as last year’s awards were streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel.
The awards come shortly after SAG-AFTRA reached a deal with film studios following months of strikes centered around payment in the streaming era and concerns about artificial intelligence. The strike began on July 25, 2023, and a tentative agreement was reached on November 8, officially concluding on December 5, 2023, with a 78% approval rating.
Although there were disagreements over the final terms, the resolution brought a sigh of relief for union leaders and the entertainment industry after a challenging period of strikes. The boycott coincided with the WGA strike, which took place from May 2 to September 27.
